Sumter EMC supports our members and their pursuit of higher education - each year we offer the Walter Harrison Scholarship through Georgia EMC.
The scholarship program began in 1985 to honor Walter Harrison and his legacy in the rural electric movement. Students from across the state apply for the $1,000 scholarship every year. Applicants for the scholarship must be accepted and enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year university, college, or vocational-technical institute in Georgia. The scholarship is based on merit and financial need and may assist the student with educational expenses.
To be eligible, students must:
- Be accepted or enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at any accredited two-year or four-year university, college or vocational-technical institute in Georgia
- Complete the two-page Walter Harrison application
- Write a two-page autobiographical sketch with references to future plans and goals
- Live in a primary residence served by Sumter EMC
Applications for the 2023 Walter Harrison Scholarship must be submitted no later than January 13, 2023.
