Lee County Family Connection, Inc. Awarded Grant from Sumter EMC Foundation

The Sumter EMC Foundation awarded Lee County Family Connection, Inc. $4,500.00 to help refurbish their Little Free Libraries (LFL) around Leesburg and Smithville. The LFL project was completed four years ago as an Eagle Scout Project. Unfortunately, the libraries were vandalized numerous times and have not withstood the weather. As a result, they plan to purchase pre-built LFLs from the National Little Free Library organization. The new libraries, made of recycled milk jugs, are weather resistant and will be placed closer to public buildings to allow for more oversight.

“Sumter EMC is happy to join the effort to help bring literacy into the hands of more citizens of Lee County. One of our guiding principles is Concern for the Community. This project is a great example of organizations working together for the betterment of the community,” said Andrea Walker, Chairman of the Sumter EMC Foundation. The Sumter EMC Foundation can give to worthy causes like this because of the members who choose to participate in Operation Round Up®. Every month Sumter EMC rounds up the electric bill of participating members to the following whole dollar amount and deposits the difference into an interest-bearing account. So, if you are a Sumter EMC member, participate and help us continue giving grants that positively impact the communities we serve.
